Connecting emerging leaders across Southeast Alaska through links digital, analog, and human.

For several years I have been interested in building links between Southeast Alaskans of my own millennial generation. There are so many amazing young(ish) people here: people who are deeply invested in our island communities, who want to (or are) raising families here, who want to (or are) starting businesses, people who are the makings of the future of this place.  People who are becoming leaders. Our leaders.

I found myself wishing I could better connect these emerging leaders with one another.  The image of a Rolodex returned to me repeatedly: I imagined adding all of these people to my mental Rolodex, building connections one by one.

In 2018, I developed this idea into a series of facilitated gatherings with emerging leaders around the region.  the Rolodex Project// was developed in partnership with Christine Woll and the Juneau Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and supported by the Center for Performance and Civic Practice.  During summer and fall of 2018, over twenty emerging leaders from Petersburg, Sitka, Hoonah, and Juneau participated. We investigated our developing individual and collective leadership through shared food, discussion, and art creation. The four groups connected with one another through a mix of snail mail, shared videos, and social media.
